Comfort of God Pt 5

Perspective That Changes Everything

We often spend our lives trying to "patch up the tent." We focus on our physical comfort, our earthly security, and our immediate relief from pain. But in 2 Corinthians 5, we are reminded that we aren't just citizens of this world; we are agents of heaven traveling through it.

Paul’s secret to enduring insults, mobs, and exhaustion wasn't found in a change of circumstances, but in a change of vision. He lived from the future backward. By recognizing that our "earthly tent" will eventually be replaced by an "eternal building" not made by human hands, we can find a comfort that the world cannot offer.

Key Takeaways:
  • The Eternal Filter: Don't just react to the enemy's work; respond to the Father’s will.

  • The Divine Seal: The Holy Spirit in you is God’s mark of ownership and a guarantee that the "goods" (your soul) are secure.

  • The Bema Seat: Our lives are an "award ceremony" for service. Every choice to honor God is gold and silver that survives the fire of His holiness.

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." — 2 Corinthians 4:17

Follow-Up Exercises:

  1. The "One-Calorie" Audit: Take a piece of paper and write down your biggest current stressor. Next to it, write "Momentary" and list one reason why this won't matter 10,000 years from now.

  2. Ambition Check: This week, before making a decision or reacting to a frustration, ask yourself: "Is my goal right now to be comfortable, or is my goal to please the Lord?"

  3. Scripture Memory: Memorize 2 Corinthians 5:7: "For we live by faith, not by sight." Repeat it whenever you feel overwhelmed by what you see in the news or your bank account.
