We glue the broken pieces of our lives back together and paint over the cracks, hoping no one notices the damage. But what if the cracks are the point?

In 2 Corinthians 4, we are reminded that we are "jars of clay." Clay pots in the ancient world were cheap, replaceable, and fragile. Yet, Paul says these ordinary vessels hold a priceless treasure: the light of the knowledge of God’s glory.

The beauty of the Gospel is that God doesn't wait for us to be "unbreakable" before He uses us. In fact, it is through our being "hard pressed," "perplexed," and "struck down" that the life of Jesus becomes visible to others. A neighbor isn't defined by proximity or similarity, but by need + our response. In a world of increasing polarization and busyness, the call to "go and do likewise" is a radical act of spiritual warfare. From smart locks to stock apps, we spend our lives trying to fortify our world against uncertainty. But no matter how thick the walls are, they can’t keep out a restless heart. In the conclusion of our series, Christmas Wish List, we discover the gift that no one asks for but everyone needs: The Gift of Peace.

This peace isn't found in a better alarm system or a fatter bank account; it is found in a Name. Immanuel.

Originally given as a sign to a terrified King Ahaz in the Old Testament, the name Immanuel ("God with us") reminds us that God’s presence is most real when our circumstances are most dire. Seven hundred years later, that promise became a Person. In Jesus, God didn't just send a message of hope—He moved into the neighborhood.

True peace isn't the absence of trouble; it’s the presence of the King. Whether you are walking through the "not-so-good" times or standing on the mountaintop, the promise remains: He will never leave you, and He will never forsake you. Remind yourself: "God is in this room, in this car, and in this conversation."

Identify the "Assyria": King Ahaz trusted an earthly alliance (Assyria) instead of God. Paul reminds the Corinthian church that discipline has a shelf life. In the final installment of our Christmas Wish List series, we look at the one thing we all resist but desperately need: The Gift of Waiting.

While we chase approval, comfort, and instant success, God offers us a Kingdom that makes everything perfect later. The first Christmas wasn’t a story of a family in control; it was a story of a census, a stable, and a flight to Egypt. It was a story of vulnerability.

Yet, that vulnerable Baby in the manger was the "down payment" on an unstoppable Kingdom. Isaiah 9:7 promises that "the zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this." Our future isn't dependent on our ability to control the outcome; it is secured by the King who has already won the victory.

Waiting isn't a punishment; it’s the slow-simmering preparation for a feast that will make every struggle worth it.
LFLG - Part 3

In the first two weeks we focused on internal transformation: guarding our hearts and surrendering our souls. Today, we arrive at Strength. In the biblical context, strength isn't just physical muscle; it is me’od—our "muchness." It is the deployment of our energy, time, talent, and money toward God's kingdom. Whether we are in the "secular" workplace or the "sacred" mission field, our strength is a seamless offering to King Jesus.

Your workplace is your mission field, and your physical body is the temple that fuels that mission.

Follow-Up Exercises for the Week:

The 10-Second Breath Prayer: Start every workday by placing your hand on your desk or tools and saying: "Lord, today’s tasks are Yours—help me work with all my heart for You."

The Excellence Challenge: Pick one routine task this week—emails, chores, or meetings—and perform it with noticeably higher quality.
Comfort of God Pt 1

Welcome to our first week in 2 Corinthians We are diving into what many call the most personal of Paul’s letters. If 1 Corinthians was about correcting the church’s "bad behavior," 2 Corinthians is about Paul opening up his "broken heart." We start with a foundational truth: God doesn’t just observe our pain from a distance; He invades it with a specific kind of comfort meant to be shared.

We want the promotion that buys us options, the recognition that erases our insecurity, and the achievements that make us look good now. But here is the awkward truth: Success can change your circumstances, but it cannot change your heart. It can buy admiration, but it cannot erase guilt. It can extend your life, but it cannot defeat death.

This is why the most important gift on God's list is the one we often overlook: Salvation.
Seven hundred years before the first Christmas, the prophet Micah pointed to a tiny town called Bethlehem. The name literally means "House of Bread." It wasn't a coincidence that the "Bread of Life" was born in the "House of Bread" and laid in a manger—a feeding trough. What bread is to physical hunger, Jesus is to the soul. He is universal, always in season, and available to both the rich and the poor.

The angels didn't go to the palaces of Jerusalem; they went to the fields of Bethlehem. They spoke to shepherds who spent their lives preparing lambs for sacrifice. Those shepherds rushed to the manger and found the ultimate Lamb of God wrapped in sacrificial cloths.

This Christmas, don't settle for the temporary high of success. Success leads to burnout, but salvation leads to eternal life. Whether you feel like you have everything or nothing at all, the Bread of Life is ready to satisfy you. It’s time to move Jesus out of the "seasonal decoration" category and receive Him as your Savior.

Follow-Up Exercises

The "Hunger" Journal: For the next three days, whenever you feel a sense of restlessness or "hunger" for more (more money, more likes, more comfort), stop and pray: "Jesus, You are the Bread of Life. Satisfy my soul right now."

The "Success" Audit: Write down three things you are currently working hard to achieve. Ask yourself: "If I achieve these, will they actually fix what is broken inside, or am I asking success to do what only a Savior can?"

The Gift of Sharing: Like the shepherds who left the manger praising God, share one way Jesus has "satisfied" your life with a friend or family member this week.

Media Resourcing

This article comes from our Sermon Series Christmas Wish List. This isn't a one-time religious box to check; it’s a habitual, daily rhythm of laying down our time, energy, and cravings at the feet of the Father.

Learning from the Bookends of Faith
We see this most clearly in two historical moments:

Abraham & Isaac: Abraham was willing to surrender his future—the very son of promise—because he trusted the Giver more than the gift.

Jesus in Gethsemane: Our Savior modeled the ultimate soul-surrender. The "Isaac" Inventory In your journal, create two columns. In the first, list your "Isaacs"—the dreams, possessions, or relationships you tie your identity to. We’ve become experts at "sunbeam calculus"—finding the exact spot where life is warmest and easiest.

But the Christmas story isn't about a King seeking comfort; it’s about a King seeking a cross. From the "kenosis" (emptying) described in Philippians 2 to the foot-washing basin in John 13, Jesus redefined greatness. He moved from infinite glory to diapers and splinters.

Being the Church means resigning from the "Tummy-Rub Nation." It means realizing that true transformation doesn't happen in the sunbeam of comfort, but in the shadow of the towel and the basin. Yet, before the busyness takes over, our new series, Lessons for Loving God, invites us to pause. To love God truly, we must begin exactly where He begins: at the center of our affections—the heart.

In Deuteronomy 6, Moses gave Israel the Shema—a call to "hear and obey." He knew that when life gets comfortable, our hearts tend to drift. We don't usually stop loving God all at once; we simply become distracted by "full tables and secure homes."

The biblical heart (levav) is your life’s control center. It’s where your affections, desires, and decisions are made. If your heart isn't right, your service, your learning, and your neighbor-love will eventually lack power. To love God with all your heart is to move from the "tummy-rub nation" of seeking our own comfort to a life of "obedient hearing."

Let’s not just make resolutions; let’s build rhythms. Whether it’s through gratitude logging, habit tracking, or consistent prayer, let’s train our hearts to notice God’s presence in the small joys and the big milestones alike.

Live in knowledge, not "forgetting." Take each day as a fresh start, guard your heart, and let everything you do flow from a place of love for Him.

Follow-Up Exercises

The 31-Day Challenge - to help you "guard your heart", choose one of the following tools to implement in a simple notebook or journal:

The Gratitude Log: Every evening, write down three specific things from the day you are grateful for. As kids, we wanted the "fun" stuff; as adults, we want the "flashy" stuff—the promotion, the curated Instagram grid, the "couple goals" aesthetic. We live in a "Watch Me" culture where we upgrade the stage but never outgrow the script: Perform. Post. Prove. Repeat. We are addicted to the oxygen of human praise, yet we find ourselves suffocating without it.

This Christmas, God is looking at our wish list and shuffling the priorities. He knows that while we want applause, we need reconciliation. According to Romans 5, we didn't start as "misunderstood" friends of God; we started as enemies. Reconciliation is the divine "peace treaty" signed in the blood of Jesus. It moves us from a state of rebellion to a standing of "well pleased."

Jesus was the original God-pleaser. He didn't adjust the message to keep the crowds, and He didn't check His "metrics" after a hard teaching. Because we are now reconciled and "placed in the Son," we inherit His approval. You can stop grinding for the world's validation. In Christ, you are already wearing the "Well Pleased" badge. This Christmas, unwrap the security of being a child of God. It lasts much longer than the glow of a new phone or a viral post.

Follow-Up Exercises

The "Validation Fast": Pick one social media platform or one area of "bragging" (work, fitness, parenting) and take a 48-hour break from posting or checking for feedback.

Audit Your "Boasting": At the end of each day this week, write down one thing you felt proud of. Ask yourself: "Am I boasting in my performance or in God's grace?"

The Mirror Truth: Each morning, look in the mirror and say: "I am a child of God, reconciled by Christ, and the Father is well pleased with me." If you've been reflecting on your inner life, now we're shifting to actionable steps that transform intention into daily reality.

Surrender isn't a one-time event—it's a continual offering of your soul to God, inspired by Romans 12:1: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship." Here are practical ways to embody this total surrender.

4 Ways to Practically Surrender

This is referenced in Lessons for Loving God Pt 2 - Soul @ 21:25 on the timeline.

1. Offer A Daily Surrender Prayer
Begin each morning by reciting Romans 12:1 as a personal declaration: "Lord, I offer my body, my time, my plans as a living sacrifice today. Not my will, but yours." This isn't just words—it's a mindset reset.

Picture yourself laying everything at God's feet:
—your schedule, emotions, and decisions.
Make it a holy habit—perhaps while brewing coffee or during your commute.

Over time, this practice rewires your day from self-centered to God-directed, reminding you that true freedom comes from releasing control.

2. Identify & Release "Isaac" Areas
Drawing from Abraham's story in Genesis 22, where he was asked to sacrifice his son Isaac, reflect on what you're "clutching" too tightly.

Use this journal prompt: "What 'Isaac' am I holding onto—a dream, relationship, ambition, or source of security? Lord, if you asked me to lay it down, would I?"

Be specific: personal goals like building or buying a home, planning trips or hobbies, pursuing education or jobs. Dig into the fears beneath—loss, failure, uncertainty—and pray through them. Release doesn't always mean abandoning the thing; it means detaching your identity from it. End with a prayer of openness: "God, take this from my grip; align it with your will." This step deepens surrender by confronting attachments that compete with God's lordship.

"What 'Isaac' am I clutching—dream, relationship, ambition, security? Lord, if you asked me to lay it down, would I?" Pray through fear and release it.

3. Weekly "Whole Life" Review
On Sunday evenings, set aside a few minutes to review the week for honest reflection. Review the past week: Where did I live for myself—in selfish choices, grudges, or distractions?

Where did I die to self, like Jesus in Philippians 2:5-8, by prioritizing others or obeying despite discomfort?

Celebrate moments of surrender, no matter how small, and repent for areas of partial obedience.

Journal key insights and pray for grace in the week ahead. This habit fosters accountability, turning surrender into a lifestyle rather than sporadic efforts.

It's a holy check-in, covering work, family, faith, and leisure, ensuring your soul's alignment with God's purposes.

4. Serve in a Stretching Way
Surrender moves from internal prayer to external action.

Commit to something costly that demands your time, energy, or resources: increase your giving beyond comfort, take on a volunteer role at church or in your community, or join a short-term mission trip.

These aren't about busyness but about practicing self-denial for kingdom impact. For example, if security is your "Isaac," give generously to test trust in God's provision. Start small but intentional—track how it shifts your perspective from self-preservation to soul-freedom.

Remember, as James 2:17 notes, faith without deeds is dead; this bridges the gap, making surrender tangible.

In 2026, let these practices guide you toward a surrendered soul—one that's fully alive in Christ. Start today, and watch how yielding leads to deeper peace and purpose.
